Sometimes I just wanna stay under the covers,
got a rash on my neck from sticking it out for others.
I’m a mother, lover, I’m a sister and a daughter,
queen of the hills and I’m queen of the water.
Lost in my thoughts, caught in a net of fine fibres,
I’m trying my best not to get tangled in the fighting.
It’s pulling us down, tugging at our thoughts,
I’ve got a permanent frown and my whole body hurts.

I’ve
Lost connection and attention to my soul and my mind,
I need an intervention a directional sign.
Sticking plaster over a half-assed love,
unpicking faster than an ill-fitting glove,
but if it fits then we can kick it over the hills and above,
when the stars start laughing they know that we’ve won.

They
Calling me mama sometimes I need to be the daughter,
Put up a damn and the weight of this water
is shorter than the journey between now and the afterlife,
wonder where pain laid before I started to write.
Thoughts rise unseemly as I scrub myself clean,
I see yellow leaves that used to be green
and the red robin telling me something I’m too exhausted to hear
mist on the hill spilling disaster in my ear.

Mist kicking grit licking my eyes as I stride
I find mud under my journey and nowhere to hide.
When pride rides before the river running her course
The damn comes calling precious water roaring with a force.
Wind bringing minimal things from the beginning,
unwittingly lifting past damage and sinning.
I’m swimming through dark days into middle age,
redbreast rejoicing to be free from her cage.
